Samsung starts making its first PCIe 6.0 SSD with blazing-fast speeds

Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of its first PCIe 6.0 SSD. Called the PM1763, the new SSD delivers blazing-fast data transfer speeds. It is designed for AI servers and enterprise applications and can load large AI models in just a few seconds.

The PM1763 offers sequential read speeds of up to 28,400MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 21,900MB/s. That makes it twice as fast as its predecessor, the PM1753. According to Samsung, the PM1763 can load a 40GB large language model (LLM) in just 1.4 seconds, helping reduce latency between the processor and the AI accelerator.

The PM1763 is designed for liquid-cooled environments, such as AI data centers, and features direct-to-chip (D2C) cooling support to maintain peak performance under sustained heavy workloads. It also delivers up to 1.8x better power efficiency than the PM1753.

For security, Samsung has equipped the PM1763 with support for post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms and the TEE Device Interface Security Protocol (TDISP), helping protect sensitive data against future security threats.

Choi Jang-seok, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Memory Division Product Planning Team, said, “Based on industry-leading performance, the PM1763 has satisfied the requirements of global clients’ next-generation AI platforms and successfully completed product verification. This product will become a core solution that supports the efficient operation of clients’ AI models by expanding memory capacity.
